dawn over the harbour
as dawn breaks along the corniche in Doha, Qatar, the only people who are out are early-bird fishermen trying their luck and me. its a soft yet cold wind that blows, gently rippling the surface of the water and ruffling my curls. a couple of the old traditional boats glide by serenely, their engines a quiet phut phut in the early morning, leading with their hand-carved traditional prows; other boats are moored to the tiny jetty, patiently waiting for their captains to arrive. in the distance the sun begins to rise sparkling and glinting over the old part of Doha. all the boats have places to go, but this little rugged harbour, looking towards the modern futuristic skyline of Doha, this is home.
